Parvez Qadir’s ‘My week in lockdown' is a powerful short film with 5 young people documenting their life for a week under quarantine. A creative response from young people who are dealing with the pressures of self-isolation to express themselves, under Parvez’s direction they became the film makers of their story.
The film reveals the highs and lows of navigating a difficult time in their lives. We see through their lens a birthday, fasting during Ramadan and a young person shielding allowed out for the first time.
Parvez explains, ‘The film will serve as a historical archive of how young people in Rochdale, no matter how hard the times, can be prove to be resilient, funny and inspiring.’
He added, ‘We were also lucky to have the permission of Boff Whalley from Chumbawamba fame to use the song Tubthumping. Boff loved the idea of young people being inspired to make a film under lockdown!’
‘My Week in Lockdown’ was commissioned by Greater Manchester Combined Authority’s (GMCA) Creative Commissions, in response to COVID-19.
