Elizabeth White’s Retrospective Exhibition at Littleborough Coach House
Preview by Steve Coolke
Elizabeth White is a well-known and much admired artist living and working in the area, who is motivated by the landscape and history of the Pennine district to the east of Rochdale.
Her beautiful paintings are full of colour, inspired by her love of the skies and the moods created by the ever changing light.
She is holding a Retrospective Exhibition at Littleborough Coach House from the 8th November to the 7th December, open from 11 a.m., to 3 p.m.
The exhibition will document her artistic journey showing her paintings not only from the Pennines but also from Greece, Spain and New York in various mediums from watercolour to acrylic and mixed media.

Elizabeth told me “I am really excited by this exhibition and am looking forward to seeing my work that will provoke so many memories of places and people.”
The preview is on Saturday 8th November from 1-3.

JAMM Christmas Cheer
Preview by Steve Cooke
The wonderful, inspirational JAMM [ Jamie Alfrey Music Memorial] is named after founder Julie Alfrey’s son who died unexpectedly aged 22 from sudden heart failure.

Johnny was a music obsessed kid from a young age and was writing his own songs from very young. He played many instruments....guitar was his first love, but he also played piano, harmonica, banjo, mandolin, drums, and anything he could get his hands on. He formed the band Starboard Jubilee with his friends whilst at Hollingworth Academy.
His dream was to have a space to rehearse and even a studio to record. Over covid he recorded many songs, and his band play them once a year at the main memorial event...JAMMfest!
His friend Jordan does the vocals now in place of Johnny and his little brother Archie plays drums. His dad is also in there playing guitar

JAMM young people get involved right from the start in anything that takes their interest....videoing, stage design, compering, sound tech...you name it, and the annual festival is planned by and run by young members!
Also, this year they ran a project to design and build their own mobile stage that collapses down so they can take it to different outdoor gigs.

On 14th December they will be celebrating Christmas and what would be Johnny's birthday, with an indoor family extravaganza at Empire Bar Rochdale! Get along to see JAMM’s young bands perform your ‘fave’ Christmas songs and loads of well-known Rock favourites.
It will be a great singalong afternoon and evening with special guests and I am told maybe even Father Christmas will turn up.

Manchester Camerata perform Handel’s Messiah at The Monastery, Manchester
Preview by Steve Cooke
Two centuries ago, Messiah was the hit everyone queued for. Some called it “too fashionable for church”— and it sold out faster than a Glastonbury headliner!
Handel’s Messiah is a masterpiece and a national treasure- a much-loved staple of our Christmas tradition.
Before writing this piece, Handel was broke and on a cold streak when he made the comeback of the century, writing Messiah in just 24 days, turning his career around completely.
Manchester Camerata are joining forces with Laurence Cummings for this performance. He is the Music Director of The Academy of Ancient Music and ranks as one of Handel’s best advocates in the world, matching the Composer’s energy and invention in his interpretations.
Once again, this is a performance with artistic partner, Kantos Chamber Choir, whose mesmerising, transcendent voices complement the heavenly tones of the Camerata orchestra.
All of this takes place in the stunning setting of The Great Nave in Manchester Camerata’s home, The Monastery, Manchester.
