Pioneers Christmas ON THEIR ANIVERSARY

By Steve Cooke

This December our wonderful Pioneers Museum is returning to hosting live events and welcomes local people to a special Tuesday late opening on the date the Pioneers first started their venture.

The Pioneers opened the doors on 21st December 1844 to sell basic goods at a fair price to hungry neighbours and friends. What they started is now a global movement for fairness and opportunity.

Tuesday 21 December

14:00 - 17:30 Local craft makers will be hosted in the building with no booking or entrance fee required. Pop down to have a look at some lovely and unique gifts, perfect if you still have some Christmas shopping to do!

14:00 - 15:00 Perfect for local families in the Christmas holidays. A live handling storytelling of 'Zola the Rat saves Christmas' with some of her animal friends. Charged at £3 per child and pre booking is required as places are limited – https://www.co-operativeheritage.coop/Event/177th-anniversary-and-christmas-celebration

15:15 A live performance from a Rochdale brass band quartet, who will be playing a variety of festive music.

16:00 - 16:15 Candle lighting (streamed live) to celebrate 177 years of modern cooperation. The event will join other countries in real and recorded time to create a band of light.

Wearing of masks and use of hand sanitiser is encouraged for adults – extra cleaning regimes will be in place.
