OUTSTAGEUS Submissions Now Open

OUTSTAGEUS Submissions Now Open

PREVIEW By Steve Cooke

This ground-breaking 2023 OutStageUs programme is designed to ignite creativity by offering a tailor-made artistic journey for early to mid-career LGBTQ+ writers.

With a proud tradition of nurturing the talents of up-and-coming LGBTQ+ creators, OutStageUs provides a platform to showcase new LGBTQ+ writing and performance.

LGBTQ+ writers are invited to submit captivating scripts that delve into LGBTQ+ themes. They're particularly eager to receive submissions from Global Majority writers, neurodiverse writers, and those from lower socio-economic backgrounds, to celebrate and champion diversity.

They're in search of scripts that entertain audiences and challenge their perspectives - innovative work that explores a variety of themes within the LGBTQ+ community and brings fresh, underrepresented stories to light.

They want to captivate our audiences, evoke laughter or tears, and encourage reflection on the world we inhabit, and the challenges faced by this community.

OutStageUs is about stimulating thought-provoking discussions and inspiring creativity in others.

Youi can submit scripts you've already been working on or create something brand new for this event - monologues, duologues, short scenes, and spoken word pieces.

All submitted scripts will be read, and feedback will be offered to those shortlisted writers who will then be offered the opportunity to Zoom with the producers and discuss their script. Up to 10 scripts will be selected from the shortlist to be presented at the OutStageUs event at Salford's The Lowry.

Writers will be offered a tailored development process working with professionals for four weeks.

With this in mind, they're looking for writers who really want to embrace the development process and work with a dramaturge [expert in the study of plays] to really refine their work prior to the final performances.

Embrace this opportunity to share your voice and make your mark on the LGBTQ+ artistic landscape.
