Nederlands Dans Theater and Complicité present Figures in Extinction at Aviva Studios

Preview by Steve Cooke

A you ready for  group of dancers stood in a line with their arms extended forward, moving in blurred motion, the lighting is dim casting dramatic shadows?

Then experience a moving and timely new work from choreographer Crystal Pite and director Simon McBurney – the culmination of their award-winning dance trilogy exploring the age of disconnection.

Humanity’s impact on the natural world is greater than ever before. How can artists meaningfully create in the face of mass destruction?

For the past four years, choreographer Crystal Pite and Complicité artistic director and co-founder Simon McBurney have weaved their hopes and fears for our current moment into the dance trilogy Figures in Extinction. In Spring 2025 Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) and Complicité will present the final instalment of this major new collaboration at Aviva Studios – performed by the astounding NDT 1 dancers.

The first work, Figures in Extinction [1.0] – a sweeping exploration of species and environments we have lost and are losing – premiered in The Hague in 2022, receiving the top prize for a dance production at the 2022 Nederlandse Dansdagen. The second work, which premiered in February 2024, is a searing look at our need for connection in a separated world.

Making its world premiere at Aviva Studios, Figures in Extinction [3.0] is the third and final piece of this moving trilogy, offering a spark in the darkness as to where we might go next through a mixture of dance, video and spoken word.

The performance at Aviva Studios brings together parts one, two and the never-before-seen part three, and is the first chance to experience the Figures in Extinction series as a whole.

Co-created by Crystal Pite – who is known for her breathtaking and boundary-pushing work in dance – and celebrated actor, writer, director and co-founder of Complicité Simon McBurney, Figures in Extinction is a thought-provoking meditation on the natural world and our relationship to it.

Clinton Baptiste: Roller Ghoster!

Solo again, Britain’s most celebrated clairvoyant medium psychic from Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights returns with his brand new hilarious one-man stand up show.

As well as venturing into the audience to offer his unique spirit readings, Clinton Baptiste comes armed with more tales from his extraordinary childhood; exposing himself in ways you could never imagine – the family that shaped him, the narrow minded who doubted him and the lovers that left him. He regales us with stories of his recent work on a cruise ship, his spirit readings round the UK, and not to mention the day to day life with his Greenlandic spirit guide, Taruak.

Brace yourselves – Clinton will prove his mystical ability once and for all. This time, he guarantees you will believe.

*No actual money back if you don’t. It’s not really a legal ‘guarantee’ as such. Look, it’s just an expression, okay?

Laugh, gasp, scream your head off…but whatever you do….strap in and hold tight as Clinton takes you on a rip-roaring ride through the twists and turns of his heady life.

The premier hands-on clairvoyant, medium and psychic, Clinton is renowned as Britain’s foremost ‘can-do’ guru.

Jive Talkin'

Renowned as the original and very best Bee Gees tribute show, and the only Bee Gees tribute show that has actually performed with the original Bee Gees! In 1997, Gary & Darren from Jive Talkin’ performed live on Heart FM with the Bee Gees and received great compliments from both Maurice and Barry Gibb.

As with the original Bee Gees, Jive Talkin’ is very much a family affair, with brothers Gary and Darren Simmons taking the roles of Barry and Maurice Gibb, with Darren’s son Jack joining the group in 2014 and taking on the role of Robin Gibb, supported by a four piece band.

For a truly amazing experience and an opportunity to hear all the great Bee Gees hits; Tragedy, Night Fever, Massachusetts, Stayin’ Alive, Jive Talkin’ and more in a two-hour explosion of music and vocal harmony, this is a night not to be missed!

From £23
