LADY EVE BALFOUR [1898-1990]
Farmer, educator, founder of the Soil Association, and a leading figure in the organic farming movement.
She wasn’t bothered by disapproval, living openly with Kathleen Carnley (1889-1976) for 50 years, riding motorbikes and flying Tiger Moth planes.
During the Great Depression she subsidised her farm by playing saxophone in a jazz band and writing crime novels!
